I am insured through my employer, who will not, under any circumstances (won't let me pay premiums), insure a newborn (maternity care is covered, but not newborn).
My husband's insurance at work will, but it costs $400 a month. Add that to an expected childcare bill of $600-$800. . . One of us would be working almost exclusively to insure and have someone else raise our baby! (Add $950 for rent, among other things. . . )
Has anyone been through anything like this? I'm sure we make too much to get any help with insurance through the state (I don't want to do that, really, even if we could).
It is absolute BS that it's easier financially to have a baby if you're working for minimum wage and get tax-payer money. :(
There must be a way to get reasonable insurance for an infant. . . a month of all those bills and we'd be living behind a Taco Bell.
Sigh
