Number one thing to survive cancer is the mental game: you HAVE to think positive and not give up.
People say they "understand" but until a doc tells you that you have cancer you cannot understand; it takes a lot to get over that diagnosis and get on with living. Make sure you talk about it with your family and loved ones; it is the "elephant" in the room. You should be open on it and so should they; it is not a time to "pretend" it isn't happening. It is time to call for all hands on deck to support you. Get the feeling out - a counsoler or other peorson can be very helpful.
One of the ugly conversations you need to have is the living will and medical power of attr'ny - what happens if you are too weak to take care of yourself or in a comma; who WILL talk for youi. You don't want to end up being the center of a court battle when you are really sick. Make sure EVERYONE knows who speaks for you and what YOU want.
After that you need to be an EXPERT on YOUR cancer - read as much as you can, ask questions, probe for new ideas and trials.
As you look for information; make SURE it has good scientific backing - double blind studies, actual data. Many people will tell you their will cure or stop cancer but once you start asking questions they cannot give you the names and histories of even one person that it worked on.
Hope this helps, most important is to LIVE while you have the chance.

I am not the cancer survivor. My mother, mother-in-law and my sister-in-law all survived cancer. My mother's was particularly severe. She took whatever medical treatment that was offered to her, but at the same time - made plans to go on living, continue to travel and to meet with friends. She basically found the cancer to be an inconvenience that clashed with the rest of her life. She was diagnosed with lung cancer in 1992 and is still living; she receives some immunotherapy that has apparently been successful for her.

Non-Hodgkins lymphoma in remission for five years. Chemo (CHOP), radiation, and Rituximab. I ate a huge amount of dairy products during treatment to help build bone because my pelvis and spine were heavily metastasized. I later heard that calcium is supposed to be good for cancer patients. I think it's a toss of the dice as to who will survive and who will succumb. There are support groups in almost every major town. Churches will have cancer support teams, also.

For me, with non Hodgkins Lymphoma, and the fact that radiation would not be an option because of severe emphysema, they treated and cured my Hep-C, which in turn hjas put the cancer into remission. It was not a fun six months; sick every day, especially 2-3 days after injection, but I gueass it was worth it, I'm alive!!!

In 99+% of all diseases, genetics only determines how a disease manifests, not if it manifests...the determining factor is our lifestyles, especially our diets.
As a Wellness Consultant, I would warn everyone to stay away from "Conventional Medicine." "Conventional Medicine" is the leading cause of death in American. Read "Death By Medicine" - http://www.lef.org/magazine/mag2004/mar2004_awsi_death_01.htm .
Those who use "Conventional Medicine" are subjected to cutting, burning and/or poisoning...this is ALL these butchers and drug pushers know and ALL of these "treatments" LOWER our immune system!!!
The best advice for everyone in order to prevent and reverse almost every dis-ease, including cancer, is to cleanse our bodies and build our immune system with foods that are as cleansing as they are building. The only foods that are both cleansing and nutrient dense are raw, organic fruits and green leafy vegetables. Since it is almost impossible to consume large quantities of green leafy vegetables, juicing fresh green leafy vegetables becomes the most important thing anyone can do to get and stay healthy. [It has been widely accepted in Europe for some time now and totally ignored in the US that cancer feeds off of sugar, so do NOT drink fruit juice.]
I have coached thousands of people and I have seen every type of so-called incurable dis-ease, including cancer, disappear simply by making better lifestyle choices. Please do NOT let other people take your responsibility away from you by treating the symptoms!!! Instead, take responsibility and REMOVE the CAUSE...STOP EATING FOODS THAT WE ARE NOT BIOLOGICALLY ADAPTED TO EAT!!!
LIVE FOODS HEAL and COOKED (DEAD) FOODS KILL!!!

Really its genetics and the overall state of health you were in to begin with. I have heard that diet plays a HUGE role in stimulating the immune system to fight. It also depends the stage it was caught and the treatment too. Look at Lance Armstrong. I truly believe his state of health, diet along with meds saved him.
