I have a 94 sear ray bowrider and I was cruising along on the lake and my boat just stopped. It made a couple of noises like the engine was about to fall apart and then I couldn't start it again. All the fluids are filled and the oil has been replaced. It was the first time I have used the boat in about 1 year. The engine will turn over but it just won't start. I have been told it might be the kill switch coming undone, has anyone ever had a problem like this????

Thanks

Most likely this Sea Ray has a Merc Cruiser IO. There is a red switch on the engine that on occasion will turn self off. Push this switch to reset. If engine doesn't start then something else is happening. If it does start then shuts off again you either have something that is overloading the switch or the switch is broken.

Don't know without troubleshooting. I would look more to a fuel problem. Either a filter or a vent. You can take off the wire to the kill switch and try and start it. It should start if the kill switch is bad and removed. Just have to figure out how to stop it if it does start. If that does not work try hooking the wire back up and spraying some gas or starter fluid into the intake. turn it over a couple times and see if it pops off.

To Check the Kill Switch; look under Dash or where-ever the Switch to see the TWO wires on the Back of the Switch. Unplug them, see how they look, they will actually slide together with the sides of each, or, use something to Clip them Together. Then see if the Boat will Start. What you doing is Bypassing the Switch! IF, it still not start then it something else.

Think about the basics, just like cars, there's only 3 things it needs, Fuel, Fire, and Power. You lack one of these or two possibly, find the kill switch short wire around it temporarily, this will give you and idea of where the problem exists, and what will need to be fixed. If you can't do it, time for the shop.
