My girlfriend and I are staying in a hotel in the Upper West Side of New York City near the American Museum. What is this neighborhood like in terms of feeling safe, atmosphere, and easy transportation to the rest of the city?

Is it true that Manhattan and Queens are now very safe places?
What about Brooklyn?

Are the suburbs of NYC still safer than NYC itself?

Miles per hour? I always wonder. They go fast but then slow down, but when they go really fast, how many mph do they ride?

Probably sounds like a dumb question but it's been well over a decade since I've been (plus I was a kid then) so I really don't remember. We don't have much time in NYC and would like to go up, but since we have kids I don't want to bother if it's going to be a really long wait even after getting the tickets. Plus I will be pretty mad if I buy in advance and then still don't have time to actually go up!!

We will be going in late April, Fri-Sun and would prefer to go in the early evening if that helps.

My cousin is comming to visit me in New York City on his spring break. He's never really seen much of the city and I want him to have some fun, but I'm pretty broke. He's from the rural South US, but he doesn't have many interests other than football. He's not really into video games, museams, or the zoo (and they're not cheap anyway), so I'm at a loss. Plus he's to old to do the little kid type of stuff.

Any Ideas? Thankx

My girlfriend and I are traveling to New York City in may and are a looking for a deal in Manhattan. There seems to be a handful of decent rooms available that are under $200, but many of them have shared bathrooms. Having never stayed at such a hotel I am obviously a little apprehensive about this, so if you've stayed at a shared bathroom hotel what are they like in general?

I am going to New York City for a class field trip for Spanish. Everyone was so excited, until we heard the news about how the teachers are going to cancel it because not many people afford it, unless we have a fundraiser or something. I have been looking forward for this trip for years, and I can't let this happen! The trip was at first $400, and now they raised it up to $550! I can afford it, but my other friends can't. What are some good ways to raise some money to help people out so they can go too, BESIDES, walking dogs, babysitting, car washes, selling stuff door to door, mowing lawns (it's too cold), or chores and stuff? My friends and I are not old enough to get a job at a store or something. What are some UNIQUE ways to raise money???

Couple 45/45 from Europe with rent car 3 days in New York. Plan: leave car near accommodation and with public transport see NY. Where to stay - location?! Like: Easy acces to subway - 5-10 min safety at 12 PM Accommodation up to 30-45 min from Times Square with subway. Accommodation up to 70$/night + tax. Like to see NY by night – safety on subway at 12 PM. Dislike: Do not drive deep in to NY to avoid heavy traffic! Question II: How far is walking from Central park to tip of Manhattan. * Thanks so much! *

My girlfriend has felt as though she's lost that special warm feeling. I want to show her what beautiful things lie ahead for us by starting with a sunrise in NYC. If anyone could please tell me the best spots to see the sunrise in NYC (or Brooklyn if need be) I'd be greatly appreciative. The more romantic the location the better!

I believe I have sunset covered as we have a favorite park by Chambers Street but that would be welcome as well. Thank you so much!

I'm looking for some good spots in New York City to sit down and read for a while, both indoors and outdoors. I know I can go to the library or Central Park, but I'm looking for something different. I don't drink coffee or tea, so I'm not big into cafes, but if you have a cool spot you're willing to share, I'd love to hear! Thanks!
