I've always wanted to go to New York, and it's not now, til i've started earning some money, that I can afford to.

I don't know very much about the city though? What are good airlines to travel with? Where would I want to stay if I want to be in the middle of the tourist-y bit? I don't want to be put up somewhere that's miles out of town on the outskirts or in a dangerous bit.

The brochure i've got has lots of hotels in Manhattan. Is that a good bit? Any advice would be very much appreciated.

I have booked 5 nights in New York next February, my wife and 2 teenagers will be coming along, I need some recommendations on good places to go and see and interesting things to do apart from shop and eat,

we will be doing the obvious sightseeing (Statue of Liberty, Ground Zero, Empire State etc) but would also like to see other interesting places not always on the main tourist trails

My friends and I are going to take a trip to NYC this october and were only going to be there for 5 days. For those of you who have been there or live there, what are some of the things that we absolutely, positively cannot miss out on?(we got some youngsters in our group, so nightclubs and bars out of the question) Also, if you know of any great photo stops that would be great too. If money is not an object, what time of the year is the most enjoyable time to go to Manhatten, NYC? A certain month or season or even around an event would be helpful. Also helpful is when to most avoid NYC due to bad weather or bad reputation.
