September is a tricky month in the Big Apple. Temps can range from hot (80's) to cool (50's especially in the evening). So bring a sweater and/or a light jacket. Jeans and Tee's are ok for the warm Indian Summer afternoons. Also, there may be a rainy spell (it's hurricane season). Evening wear may include a suit (and maybe a tie) for fancy dining or the theater.

Have fun. There's lots to do and see.

Don't bother with the suit, unless you're hitting VERY high end, or you just like dress-up.

I have never worn a tie to a non-business dinner in NYC in my life. If you must, a sport coat even with jeans is unlikely to be turned away.

Remember you can get just about anything here as well if you forget something.

I'd stick with mostly long pants, bring at least one sweater, and mostly long sleeve. There's a good chance you'll get some rain, so bring a windbreaker.

You're probably not used to cold, so I'm erring on the side of warmth.

Pants, light sweaters to put over a short-sleeved shirt. You might want to bring a windbreaker/rain jacket... something light, just in case it rains. Comfortable shoes! Always!

The days are warm, the nights are cold. I would check with weather.com right before your trip. We've had some really cold spells recently
