There isn't a subway in South Hackensack. The only public transportation is the bus called NJ Transit that comes by every 10-20 min, if it is at all punctual. Is your motel close to the bus station which is US-46 & Fred Wehran Dr? If not, drive to the Edgewater Commons Shopping Center, leave your car in the parking lot, and take #158 bus to the Port Authority in Manhattan.

The best bet is to get on a bus from South Hackensack to the Port Authority Bus Terminal, 8th Ave @ 42nd Street in Manhattan. Like the 161 or 165 NJ Transit Bus.
