Well, it's approximately 3000 miles from cost to cost. Assuming a walking rate of 5 mph it would take 600 hours. If you walk 8 hours per day that is around 75 days. However, you will probably not walk in a straight line from cost to cost so you need to take that into account. Additionally some days you will walk longer than others and some days you will walk faster than others.
Best guess: Approximately 3 months.

All of the states? Well I know that hiking the Appalachian train takes about 3-4 months on foot, and that is going from Georgia up to Maine. There is some hiking trail out west that goes from Arizona or something up to Alaska... and it takes about 4-6 months too I believe. To go across the country... well I really don't know, this guy who's site is (was) www.fatmanwalking.com walked from California to NYC. I don't remember how long it took him.. it looks like a a year and a few months.

Interesting. So I looked on the net and here's what I found:
1. a site whose members actually do this every year, but not on foot, of course. They travel from Ocean City, Maryland to San Francisco, California. Coast to coast. http://www.route50.com/
2. Then I found a site to tell me how far that was: 2561 miles (4122 km) (2226 nautical miles) Not as far as I thought it was.
http://www.indo.com/distance/
3. How fast can you walk? How many hours will you sleep?
An average person can walk 4.2 km/h on a horizontal trail. I found that here: http://rjd.web.cern.ch/rjd/Walk/speed.html
So if you walked 10 hours/day, you would be very tired but you would arrive at your destination in 4122/4.2 = 981.43 hours or 40.9 days.
Not too bad.

The chances of you making it the whole length on foot is minimal! So I say about 3 hours before you get shot, raped or put in prison for Jay Walking!
