Alrighty, Im going to New York next week and Im im getting confused with all teh boroughs and neighbourhoods around the main city Centre ie. Mid-town, upper east side etc. So, what are the names of all the boroughs that would be cheaper to stay in around manhattan that will only take about 20 minutes to get to the city centre. And what about all teh islands or surrounding cities that wont be a trek to get to manhattan. We'll be doign all the typical tourist attractions so we need to be able to get to the the main part of manhattan.

Thanks!

I know there are buses that go from Washington DC to Port Authority, and its not much of a walk from there to Grand Central, but I was wondering if anybody knew of a busline that goes from DC straight to Grand Central?

I am planning to stay a hotel that is located at 215 W. 34th St. (bet. 7th & 8th). Is this a safe area? I have heard that as long as I stay below the 100's then it is decent.

Thanks!!

The tickets are so expensive - over $100 each for Broadway and off-Broadway shows. Are there any other options?

It was just announced that Pope Benedict XVI will be giving a Mass at Yankee Stadium on April 19, 2008 as part of a 6 day stop in the United States. He will also be the first Pope to visit Ground Zero.

My question....for those that can go WAAAYYY back. For those of you that went to Madison Square Garden to see Pope John Paul II back in 1978, did you have to obtain tickets to see him? Were there any costs to the tickets..though something tells me no. Or were you able to just walk in?

Everyone says it's a fake, but it is a dam good fake! The only reason I think it may b fake is b/c I have never seen a Coach duffle bag before. We bought it out of some hidden back room in this secure loft building for $40. Awesome deal. I love it... Just wanted to see what u think?

I recently lost my job and I literally am broke. My mom made plans before I lost my job so this was definitely not expected. Considering a low budget and she is staying for 4 nights and three days what are some things to do?

I am staying in the Times Square area coming into Penn Station. I will be there for approx. 30 hours before I board the train again. I am going there by myself (on my way to Oregon to be with my family for Christmas). I have tickets to see the Rockette's so far on my first day and I'm going on the Sex & The City tour the next day. I haven't decided if I will try to see a Broadway play (that is if they aren't on strike still) while I'm there - will play that by year. I don't know of any good places to eat in that area (inexpensive, but good, that will accommodate someone by themselves and not geared just towards couples or larger parties). I was thinking about going on the Lights tour at night too. I've been told to definitely window shop the department stores for their displays. I don't intend on going out of this area really either with the short time I have in the city. Thanks for any advice anyone can give.

My g/f and I are currently staying in Newark and are looking for the cheapest route into NYC. We can get free shuttle to airport and then from there it's $15 straight into NYC. Tell me this is not the ONLY way, theres got to be something cheaper. It's just amazing that round trip on the NJ Transit is $30!!! Someone help me out! :)

Thanks!

I am a Houstonian who visited NYC in 1999 and loved it. On the Houston forum on here, Houstonians say it is crappy. I personally feel that NYC has WAY more culture and history than Houston. Given that I only stayed a few days, are my fellow Houstonians correct.................I am inclined to say no.

I need to be in Brooklyn for a meeting at 11:00. I usually fly or take the train but I am considering driving so I can stay for a few days. I think if I leave @ 6:00 I'll be through CT around 9:30. Not sure any insight would be helpful.

A few friends and I are taking a road trip up in that direction. The person whose car we are taking gets nervous driving in Nashville which is nothing when compared to NYC. And, well, I'm not the most confident driver either...so, what's it like driving in NYC? Any tips? Thanks!
