you can take the shuttle train at Grand Central Station. It will take you to times square. Or you can walk to Times Square. When you leave Grand Central, make a right at the entrance and just walk straight. its only about 4 to 5 blocks

There is a shuttle train that only goes back and forth from Grand Central to Times Square. Look for the gray S signs. There is also a 7 train, but that also goes into Queens so make sure it's going toward Times Square or you'll wind up at Shea if you stay on it long enough!

Go to the Ny/NJ Transit Authority website to find maps. You want the Shuttle between Times Square/Grand Central. You could walk it instead, if it's a nice day.

There is a back and forth shuttle that goes between Times Square nad Grand Central....the symbol for it on the signs is a Grey Circle witha big white S.
When you get there get a free subway map from any of the booths.

You can either walk down 4 blocks to Times Sq. from Grand Central, or take the shuttle to Times Sq.
You might as well walk it, and enjoy the sites, it's only 4 blocks

don't bother with the subway or bus, just WALK.
it's only 4 avenue blocks west of GCT and takes only 10 minutes.
by the time you go to the bus stop or subway station, wait for the bus or subway (which is only 1 stop), get on, ride, stop, get off, go upstairs, and all that, you will have already arrived at Times Square on foot.
just get out of GCT on 44th Street and Vanderbilt, which is up the western staircase from the Main Concourse. the next block is Madison Avenue, then Fifth Avenue, then Sixth Avenue, and the next intersection is Seventh Avenue / Broadway, which is Times Square itself.
have a great time!

Take the subway. I thought it would be nightmare, but I took it from Times Square to Yankee Stadium and it was faster and cheaper than a cab or driving. It is pretty easy to get around and they have booths at each station. Just tell them where you want your ticket to and they will tell you the exact amount to pay. You can even do a round trip ticket.
