Since many of your fellow Houstonians (?) have never been to a real city they are not qualified to judge a real city like NYC.
The distinction between a real city and a faux -city like Houston is that in a real city the wealthiest residents live within the city proper. In a faux city the wealth is in the suburbs and the city itself is left to the poor
Having residents of means living in a very urban environment has a positive cascade effect in that upscale goods and services [along with the Arts ]remain in the the city and that benefits everybody

It's a lot less crappy than Houston is. Houston Street here was a paved street before Sam Houston was even born. By the way, whom beat whom in the 1986 pennant?

I agree that back in the late 80's NYC wasn't doing too hot... but nowadays it is experiencing a renaissance. Not having ever been to Houston other than to their airport I can't really comment on the comparison, only to say I have never heard people say... yea we gotta go to Houston on our next trip.

If you've talked to someone from your hometown that visited New York City back in the late 80's and early 90's, they may have had a point since New York City was going through bad times..crack, high murder rates, muggings. etc. But now, New York City has become a LOT safer and yes, we do have a lot of history, culture and limitless things to do and see here. And anyone from Houston is more than welcome to check it out for themselves :)
We may still have our rough sections, but then again so does Houston and any other major city in the US.
You probably know this....but we do have one street called Houston, yet in New York City, we pronounce it HOW-ston. :)

It depends on the individual and how that individual feels that particular day. NYC is a melting pot of thousands of different cultures, high rise buildings, crowded streets, interesting historical buildings and sites, busy busy busy lifestyle, and very expensive to live there. Houston is more laid back, open spaces, not much variety in terms of culture, newer buidings and houses, relaxing athmosphere, cleaner, less people walking around, etc.........so how do you feel today?

It sounds like your fellow Hustonians are totally jealous! NYC is a great place! There is more culture and more to do in 1 square block in NYC than in any other city in the world!

From my experience, most Houstonians have never left Texas. So they cannot judge good from bad. That might explain it.

Houstanians must be jealous...that's the only reason to say anything bad about the center of the universe (LOL)
Seriously though, NY is a magical place and there is nowhere like it.

Man of Gold you're just great. I think these people say that, because they are jealous that they are nothing like NYC although they try to be.
