Hi there,

I'm a Canadian travelling to Holguin, Cuba for vacation at a resort this Friday. Some friends want me to pick up some genuine Cuban cigars (Sancho Panza Coronas and Montecristo No. 4 Marevas) and Rum. I have a few questions:

- Where should I buy the cigars? Do they charge you a lot more at the airport for them? How much approx. should they cost?

- How many boxes of cigars am I allowed to bring back to Canada? Does it matter if I have a receipt?

- How many litres or bottles of Rum can I bring back?

Thanks in advance everyone!!!

Cuba is 90 miles from the Keys in Florida.
This Cuban guy told me that he waited for a storm one day and the day after when the storm had died down he started swimming to the USA and that is how he got here.

Could this story be possibly true?

He said he waited for the day after the storm because this is when the ocean is the calmest and the risk of getting side tracked by the ocean currents is low. Supposibly the currents going from East to West cause many Cubans coming to the USA to miss the Keys or southern tip of Florida and to end up drifting around in the Gulf of Mexico somewhere!

He said Castro had just given permission for anyone that wanted to to leave the Island and a lot of people had started making their way by boat during the storm. That there were at some points dead people and turned over boats floating around that didn't make it the night before. And that this is what saved him from the sharks because they were feeding on the other dead people and so left him alone

A friendis going to Holguin and has offered to bring me some cigars . Is there a good place in Holguin or is the airport in Havana any good for buying real Cubans ;I don't want those rolled up floor sweepings they sell on the beach .What currency are they using these days and what would a box of Monte Cristos #4 be worth these days . I'm traveling to Cuba soon, and I'm confused about the two types of currency - the convertible peso and the regular peso.

Which one do I need? Or do I need different ones for different things?

Also, I'm Canadian, and I've read something about not being able to exchange pesos in Canada...what's up with that? Is it true?

I hear that some people have scams to tourists who don't know the difference between the pesos...

Thanks for any help and advice!
