We go to Sol Club on Cayo Coco. It is quieter than some of the other hotels, with a regular restaurant and a Cuban restaurant on the long beach.

I'm surprised that you have heard bad reports of the hotels.

You can visit a local town from Cayo Coco for about $100 in a taxi and less for a tour bus. A good meal in a nice little restaurant in the town costs about $5 each.

To find the best hotels it all depends on what you will like to do, to see and how much you are willing to spend during your stay in Cuba. The beaches in Cayo Coco are amazing, similar to Varadero, but because it is an small island attached to the country you won't have the opportunity of having the interaction with the culture and cubans. For relaxation definetely Cayo Coco, the beaches are gorgeous, and the best hotel Tryp Cayo Coco. Sincerely a canadian- cuban citizen. Good luck

Which hotels have you heard bad about - and what bad things.

Cayo Coco is a tourist enclave, and most Cubans cannot even get on to the island. But you can go on visits to see something closer to the real Cuba.

Probably the best is the Melia, then the NH Krystal, then the Tryp. But a lot depends on what you are looking for.

Loud aerobics in the lobby - the Tryp's for you.

The hotel built around and over a seawater lagoon - the NH.

I've only been once to Cayo Coco but sincerely enjoyed Blau Colonial. A big plus too, resorts are only 15 minutes from the airport.
