I know it's not possible to know more than a few days in advance if a hurricane will hit, my question is more about whether we'd be safe if we were there when a hurricane hits.

I am an Australian citizen, so no problems with Cuban visas. Will be in Argentina, Buenos Aires, and want to get Havana. I can fly to Cancun and another flight to Havana, but would prefer to take a boat or ship across the carribean, just seems much cooler that way :). Anyone know if thats possible? Maybe from somewhere else around there, like the Dominican Republic, or even Miami (as im not a US citizen)? I cant find any details on the internet.
Thanks!

Moving to cuba in the next six months, was trying to get a general estimate about how much its gonna cost to live there for six months to a year? Obviously my major expense will be housing and food. I wiil pretty much do local transport, and although Im used to rural living and would like to live as much as the locals do as possible, I will need consistent electricity and secure housing. Lots of the casa particulares in Cuba though, at least the legal ones are pretty expensive (100-125US a week!!! I might as well live in the states!) Any answers/suggestions concerning actual living expenses in Cuba will be apprecated.

Please can any1 help I'm so confused I've had so many mixed reports I dont know what to do for the best. I've read that cuba wont accept dollars and if you want to change currancy the exchange rate for dollars is very high, but most people I've spoken to say take dollars? also i would love to go to havana but a friend of my fiancee said he went and he hated it he got bothered by the locals, there was nothing to do, nowhere to eat, and nothing to buy. not that i want to buy anything anyway, but I would like to eat, plus i really dont like to be harrased by local people I had a bad experieance in Turkey when i went out on my own i got threatened buy a man selling imitation purfume, kept telling me he could get very nasty if i didnt buy anything from him, it left me a bit gittery and untrusting to say the least. can you help I'm going to cuba in may and I want to be prepared. Thanks Cheryl

Seems as if I would be better off financially and maybe even culturally just living with a family and living everyday life to finally pick up the language. I understand there are schools out there that provide homestays in order to learn the lanuage, but I do need to be very frugal, with my funds, and since Cuba is relatively cheap, I think it in my best interest not to pay a large company money for something I can go to the country for and pick up through other methods. My problem isnt understanding so much as speaking fluently. Any suggestions?
