Will Cuba be safe in hurricane season?

I know it's not possible to know more than a few days in advance if a hurricane will hit, my question is more about whether we'd be safe if we were there when a hurricane hits.

It's a matter of being prepared. Yes, hurricanes frequently hit Cuba. There are homes destroyed, but Cuba normally has the lowest number of casualties from a hurricane. This is because they are prepared. My husband's family has been through many hurricanes and have never lost their home or family members. Most buildings are constructed out of concrete, roofs as well. Thus making them sturdier in high winds. I have included part of an article on this topic.

State run television and the civil defense authority bombard the population with information and instructions about what measures to take. On every block, there's a person assigned to take a census on who is being evacuated to which shelter, with special attention paid to the elderly and pregnant women.

Cuba is always hit by hurricanes in the season,is normal and because of that reason they are prepared,the houses are built to withstand the winds and the TV is giving you the forecast 24/7.Usually they evacuate the areas that are gonna be hit and the tourist are priority.Much of the tourists that have been in Cuba during a hurricane they usually end up enjoying the experience more than anything else because they are not used to this type of storm and they have special treatment on the hotels.

it depends on the catagory of the hurricane. Here is some information that might tell you if you think is safe to stay or not.

if cat. 1 you can probably be alright if you stay but you don't have to evactuate (it more like a tropical storm then a hurricane)

if cat. 2 well the same thing if you live in a house that is not strong enough for large storms then you can evacuate. but you may things like hurricane watch or hurricane warning.

if cat. 3 well most of the time the mayor will order a town evacuation but it depends on the area of the location you live in. if you live closer to the sea, i think it is best for you to go but farther away from the sea, you can stay if you want.

if cat 4 thats when evacuation of large areas like counties or small towns near the area. evacuation where the hurricane is most likely to hit. but still if you live around the area where it is going to hit then i prefer for you to get the packin'

if cat 5 GET THE HELL OUT!! but serioulsy it can be very dangerous to stay at home during a cat 5 hurricane especially the flooding. But you probably know that.

but the good thing is when a cat 5 hurricane is about 1000 or 2000 miles away it will most likely weaken to a cat 3 before it hits which ever coastal area you are in.

Cuba is unsafe in any season. It is a Communist dictatorship where human life is worth nothing. Instead of Cuba, go to PR, DR, or some other Caribbean island.
