We are going to Havana for a week and then on to Varadero for a week. We stayed at an all inclusive (the Tropicana) last year but the food was really awful. Beaches and Sandals are really too expensive for us. Any other suggestions with eatable food?????
Thanks

I've read about charity cycles across Cuba - does anybody know if it's possible to join in (in a strictly non-cycling capacity)? Or are there any other options?

I'm flying into Varadero on a Sunday night, with my flight getting in at around 10 pm, and need to get cash right away as we're staying at a casa particular and will need to take a taxi.

Are their currency exchange booths that are open long hours, or ATMs, in the airport?

My father came to the US in 1980 and died here in 1993. I don't know anything about his family. I think I share the same name as his mother and sister. Just looking for ideas on locating them.

Hi! I'm planning a trip to Cuba but it is very hard to find reliable information. I'd like to know:

1. What currency is used in Cuba, and will it be possible to exchange Australian dollars for that currency easily?

2. Where are the best places to stay in Havana? We just want to stay some where comfortable but not overly expensive.

3. Is the best way to fly there from Australia to L.A. to Mexico City to Havana? Is there a better/cheaper/faster route?

4. Is it considered offensive to speak English in Cuba? We can speak Spanish, but would probably be speaking English to each other.

5. We might even get married while we are there. Do you know anyone who has done that? Where did they do it? Presumably it won't be legal in Australia though, right?

6. Any other advice??

I am planning on goin to Cuba in February. My friend has a criminal record (one minor offence and a DWI) and I was wondering if he would still be allowed to enter Cuba? I saw a question like this for D.R and it was said that as long as one has a passport there shouldnt be any problems. Does anyone know anyone knows if this is the same for Cuba?
(I asked this question earlier but forgot to mention that I am a Canadian).. Thank you to those who responded to my first question!!!

Am going to Cuba in July, landing at Holguin Airport but I want to go Santiago de Cuba. Are there taxis outside the airport? I know it takes about 2 hours to drive to Santiago but how much will it cost if I took a taxi?
Any tips from anyone who has travelled between Holguin and Santiago will be appreciated. Tips for other forms of transport are welcome + costs if any.

The only flight i've been able to locate is from santo domingo, dominican republic, but the time frames are too close. I find flights to Havana, but I don't want to go there. Or maybe you know what airlines land in Santiago de Cuba other than Aerocaribbean. thanks guys.
