My father came to the US in 1980 and died here in 1993. I don't know anything about his family. I think I share the same name as his mother and sister. Just looking for ideas on locating them.

I tried that. I am looking for some way to research people in Cuba or with someone who knows someone in Cuba that could help me.

I don't even know the town they are from. I am going to try to get that information off of the social security application.

first, you are going to have to get some more information about at least where he is from. Cuba is a very large island and many people have the same last name. My husband's family is still in Cuba, but if we had no idea what town they were from, it would be very difficult to find them. There must be someone, somewhere in your family here that has some information. Did he ever call his relatives in Cuba ? Did he ever mention any names ? If he was a citizen here or even not, just having been through the alien registration, he must have papers he filled out that list his town, where he was born, so on and so forth. My husband has all those papers in a file. Start doing some investigative work, and see what you can come up with. I wish I could be of more help, but without particulars, it seems very difficult to impossible.

Go to Miami. Ask the taxi driver to take you to Little Havana/Westchester or Hialeah and ask people if they know your family. You are bound to bump into at least 10 relatives in Miami that way. Or try New Jersey, namely in Weahawken. You can also go to Key West and set up a telescope at mile marker 0 and look toward Cuba to see if you recognize anyone. Or simply call Raul Castro seeing as Fidel is not taking any phone calls at this time. Maybe the radio station El Sol 95.7 in Miami can help
too. They can broadcast your family name and the town they are from all over Miami. That should get to about 3 Million listeners.
