Its the Chicago of China! And who hops a plane from another continent to visit Chicago? Dirty, ugly, needlessly expensive...why not hit Dalian or Qingdao instead?

Me and my friends will be going Hong Kong this coming Wednesday, and we are planning a trip to Shenzhen the next day. There will be only 3 girls moving around Shenzhen, will it be safe?

We do know how to communicate in cantonese and mandarin, therefore language is not a problem for us.

However, we do not know how to go to those shopping places in Shenzhen. Can anyone provide us with some information on how do we go to these shopping areas mentioned below:

Mixc mall
Lowu Commercial City
Dongmen Commercial Center

And how do I translate commerical city, centre and mall into mandarin?

Any other cheap shopping places which any can recommend?

With all the western corporations coming to China and all of the economic growth, can China maintain its unique culture? In 50 years will rural Chinese still live without electricity farming as they did hundreds of years ago? Will the quaint Chinese architected towns still remain? Or will Chinese culture fall to skyscrapers and McDonalds?

I gather this impression from the sheer number of online magazines, websites featuring business and technical content and other news stories emerging from China. Xinhua, Shanghai Daily, China Business Review, People.com.cn all have English subscriptions.

While 4-5 year back there was practically none of this available, it seems no longer the case - a lot of information about China is now available in English making it easier for foreigners.

On a comparative scale, I found the English websites from China to be more in numbers and quality strength compared to many other non-English countries - comparable to Russia, Germany and Scandinavian countries and better than Italy, France or Brazil which tend to have more content in their local languages.

Also it shows in Wikipedia that most youngsters in Shanghai are comfortable in English as it is now compulsarily taught in middle school - does that mean a high level of "street fluency"?

I guess I'm impressed there's way to go !

I think they are the 3 big influential countries in Asia. - Have you ever been to all of them? Do you feel you need to more about them in order to really answer? Is there anything about those countries that needs to be clarified for you? If so, say them here, hoping that other y!answers can help. *Please, no racist remarks!! I don't plan on making a battle scene here. I hope this can actually help others understand more about those 3 countries because they are all unique in their own ways.* Thanks! [; (sorry that I left out other Asian countries, but I dont think I can fit all of them into one single question.)
