Don't miss the Terra cotta soldiers. Really amazing.
Yangsho in the south is a tourist trap but really beautiful and they have an outdoor play/festival every night that is stunning. They literally light up the mountains for miles around. There are so many wonderful things to see in China. Try to stay out of the big cities. They are Grey and dinghy and really crowded. Have fun!

Vist Guanzhou in the south for it's culture and while you're there, stop by Hong Kong. It's has the latest (or knock-offs - copies) of everything. Visiting Hong Kong is like being a little kid in a big toy store. I spent a week there and wished I could have spent a month.
Part-way up along the coast to the north is Guilin. Is has very unusal landscapes with the multiple, steep and high hills.
If you continue a little further north, visit Shanghai. There you'll see a blend of British influence in architecture along with western culture in an asian setting - a very interesting place.
I you travel in-land, stop by X'ian and check out the Terra Cotta soilders. This ancient city has an amazing history.
Any trip to China should include a tour of the capital, Beijing. There are things there you may have heard about; which would be a thrill to experience them first hand; such as the The Great Wall of China and The Forbidden City. The visit to these two attractions are most impressive and worth the entire trip - you'll remember them for the rest of your life.

There are simply so many places to see in China!
If you are up to some adventure, then go to Lhasa where you can touch the "Roof of the World" - Tibet! You can visit the Holy City, Lhasa at the foothills of Mt Everest.
Kunming which is in the southwest, is famous for its diverse minorities, their vibrant life and colorful traditions. Kunming is also called "Spring City" since it has really mild pleasant weather all year long. Try the spring time to enjoy Kunming at her best time, they have all kinds of minority festivals! If you have time, complete the Shangri-la trip with Dali and LIjiang. Old town Lijiang is really a gem with over 800 years history and original look of its peaceful atmosphere.
The Silk Road, is a journey to the west! You can start from Xi'an, the starting point of the Ancient Silk Road, and follow the footsteps of the ancient caravans deep into the Gobi Desert! You will see the amazing Mogao Grottoes in Dunhuang with the oldest Buddhist Shrines in China and the most extensive and exquisite collections of Buddhist paintings and sculptures in the world! When you arrive in Urumuqi, you will really be surprised by its exotic architecture, extraordinary landscape and the local Uygur people.
of course, the most historical city is Xi'an, where you can appreciate the 2000 years Terra Cotta Warriors! The most beautiful city is Guilin, which is in the south, its natural scenery is so enchanting like a living canvas!
At last, I will recommend Beijing, although it's quite international but absolutely unique. If this is your first time to China, you can't miss Beijing simply because you can't go to China without seeing the Great Wall!
There are simply too many options to choose from, it just depends when you are going and what is your cup of tea!
I hope this gives you some ideas to start with. If you have any more questions, please feel free to contact me through our website: Jia@Jiasdreamtours.com. We specialize in custom tours to China with the whole package, including accommodation, transportation (air & car), tour guides in each city just for your own travel party, not joining any big tour groups.
We would be glad to help you with your trip to China!
