I'm interested in anime/manga or other Japanese stuff. I don't know if there're any shops in Beijing (center) that have these things. And one more, I prefer small stuffs like keychain, small figure, stationery so what do you think I could buy for souvenirs
Thanks for your help anyway.

try the silk market road(xiushuijie). they have practically everthing in there. but you have to bargain and start really low. goods can sometimes be priced 1000 percent higher than what you can get it . take for example, i bought clarke shoes which they quoted for 1,450 yuan but i was able to bargain it for only 150 yuan. they would insist that they have genuine staff when it is really obvious it is not.

bargaining is an art. as most stalls there sell similar stuff it is best to shop around. go to the first stall and ask for a bargain. give them a price usually one tenth of what they are asking. they will express amazement and will laugh at you. do not be coerced but still insist on your price. if they will not budge just walk away. if they really can give it to you at your price then they will hold on to you. but if not they will let you go. if they let you go then you know the last price they quoted is really a good price. go to another stall that sells the same item and haggle the price of what the other store offered last.

remember you are not obligated to buy. their method of selling might appear demanding and abrasive but always hold your ground as this is a tourist area and being monitored by the chinese government. the only thing that the government turns a blind eye to is the fact the products are obvious fakes.

Yes, anime is popular in China, despite what some of the other answerers said. That said, its popularity is pretty much limited to teenagers while it's frowned on by almost all Chinese parents.

So unlike in Japan where anime and manga are part of mainstream culture, they're inextricaby tied to youth culture in China. Hence, you will NOT find anime and manga in upscale bookshops and department stores, but instead in small shops tucked away in small alleys... places where young people would sneak off to whilst their parents are looking the other way. It might take a bit of asking to get where you want! (And don't ask adults- they'll think you're some delinquent, haha!)

Japanese stationery, keychains, figures, and other small items are MUCH more popular and widely accepted, though. ANY stationery shop and department store would have stashes of those. Not much searching required =p

Oh, and one last word... you probably need to go to the modern shopping centres in the suburbs to find all this. Not the touristy or old areas like open-air markets and such! As I mentioned, go where the young people would go.

Beijing is full of very interesting places - The Forbidden Palace - Tianamen square - Palace of Heaven - The Emporers Summer Palace - The Great Wall - etc. etc. etc..

Don't know much about buying Japanese 'stuff' in Beijing which is in China - but at many of the tourist sites you will find small Chinese souveniers.

Animé is Japanese and I don't think it's big in China. As for Beijing see the Fobidden City, Yonghe Temple, Tian'an men Square, eat what you want and eat well because it's really cheap and it'll be good stuff! Have a great time, I'm leaving for there in 2 weeks tomorrow!!!

Anime is huge in Japan, not China. If you go to Beijing, you have to visit the Great Wall, one of the 7 Wonders of the World.

You can find Manga DVDs in the "Tushu Dasha" bookshop in the Xidan area. My friend likes the Conan series and I buy the DVDs for her there. This bookshop is one of the largest in the city and is very near the centre (by bus it is two stops from Tiananmen Square.) You can find Manga on the third floor where the CDs and DVDs are.
Keychain, small figure and stationary you can find in the Xidan area too. One of the shopping malls is called "77th street" I think, or similar.

I will be there, too. I'll buy a tea set and some pearl jewelry for gifts.
