"Are Taiwan and Hong Kong part of China?"
" Is China bigger than America?"
The status of Taiwan has yet to be determined. Those who understand international law know why Taiwan is not recognized by the U.N. Taiwan is still known as the "Republic of China," until there is a change of name.
Hong Kong, the former British Colony, returned to China as a "Special Autonomous Region" in July, 1997. Somehow you missed that...
Taiwan too could join China under "One Country Two Systems." No need to be confused, since the situation has not been settled yet.

China is slightly larger then the USA
Hong Kong is part of China.

Now onto Taiwan.

The pending invasion of Taiwan: That threat has been going on for over 50 years and is never going to happen. China has laid claim to Taiwan as it was one of China’s provinces prior to Mao taking over. Sure, China and Taiwan dust off their sabers once a year or so, rattle them at each other, then put them away and go back to normal trade, cultural and scientific exchanges and tourism. I suspect all the saber rattling is done to appease the haters. In time, when China’s economy becomes stronger, Taiwan and China will be united for economic reasons and like Hong Kong, it will be under the same concept, one country, two governments. Exactly what China has stated for over a decade.

Signed, an ex pat from the USA living in the central part of China.

Peace

Jim

Taiwan is not a part of China but China claims it. Hong Kong is a part of China but it has a special status meaning it can conduct a lot of its affairs separately from China.

China has a bigger population than the US, but I think the US still has a bigger total land area.

Most Taiwanese don't think Taiwan is a part of China.
Most Chinese(In People Republic of China) think Taiwan is a part of China.

If Taiwan's area is included, then China's area is bigger.
Anyway US and China is almost the same in area.

Taiwan is not part of the PRC Government. Taiwan has never been associated with the PRC Government. in fact, the government ruling over Taiwan is a free democracy. China, is communist. Taiwan was one of the founder members of UN and original member of the security council. Taiwan is an amazing nation. China is a country that has been brainwashing the world into thinking that it has jurisdiction over Taiwan.

Hong Kong is now a "Special Administrative Region" of China. Hong Kong is part of China, but in some extent it is not entirely subjected to China's rules. China is responsible for Hong Kong's defense and external affairs, while Hong Kong is responsible for their legal systems, monetary system, immigration policies, etc. Hong Kong has been given a high degree of autonomy.

Taiwan, meanwhile, is somewhat debatable. China claims that Taiwan is theirs; they consider it a "rebel" province, while Taiwan claims they are independent. You can't say which is which (as of now)....

U.S.A. is bigger in China (I assume you're talking about land area)

U.S.A.: 9,826,630 sq km
China : 9,571,300 sq km

Hong Kong had no choice but to be handed back to China on account the British carelessly leased most of it for 99 years in the form of the New Territories in 1898. So they had to hand it all back in 1997, otherwise they wouldn't have been able to survive as a city if needed water and electricity were shut off forcibly...
Taiwan was not involved in all that... It was a Japanese colony at the time, so they are absolutely free of any obligations with China. I sincerely hope they keep it..
