I am planning to travel from Bangkok to Chiang Mai via night train arriving in the morning. Should I book a place to stay first before leaving? or book it when I arrive? If you people do have places <$5 to recommend I would appreciate any suggestions.

I am a Permanent resident of the USA and I am planning to go to Japan for 9 days... One of the requirements for a Visa is a bank statement... how much does my bank account need to have so I will get approved for a visa? I only have a checking account because I am a full time college student (read: unemployed) and my parents give me money... Actually they will be paying for my trip to Japan... Do I even need a savings account? So how much do you think I should have in my account? Thanks!

I'll be traveling to Tokyo, Japan and would like to know how far it is between cities so that I can decide where else to go. I'm mostly interested in how long it takes to get from Tokyo to a given city by train since that seems to be the best way to travel in Japan. People sometimes are starting to piss me off when I made mention I'm from the Philippines and they blurt out right away "do you eat dog?" It's annoying and in my part, it's humiliating because the question is much more of a confirmation with the disgusted look on the face of these people...

I don't know how to react with this because I know its true, some Filipinos do. How do I tell them that it's true without grossing them out? Is this a cultural thing or what?
