Sorry I should have checked my typing. What I meant to say is that I have been to China a few times (Schenzen) and it seems like on every other house, they have a pool table outside. It's the weirdest thing.

Well, it is there for hire to the local folk. It is a very cheap of entertainment here. By the way, they are only usually found around manufacturing towns. :)

I live in China, and the pool tables I see are actually for use at a price. It's a common pass time in villages. We have a couple of them on the road (literally on the road) on the way to work. I don't know why they are outside, but probably because there isn't room to have more than one of them inside and the lighting would cost too much. Also, it gets hot in the summer, and the places where I've seen them, the people can't afford AC. They don't even have indoor plumbing.

It was the weirdest thing - I was traveling through remote Tibetian villages, and their houses are small and poorly made. Yet, people still have pool tables near there houses. It was really interesting. Check out the picture I snapped driving through the mountains.

It's business related. Locals who cannot afford to play pool in a housed pool room (quite expensive) can satisfy their urge in this make-shift pool table.

It is a little bit exagerrated to say every house has one. You can see this in the rural towns around Shenzhen (or other big cities), not in the city itself.

Outdoor pool is common in some other Asian countries as well. It's cheap recreation for folks who don't have much disposable income.

maybe because it is a status symbol and their houses are too small to accommodate a pool table?
