I lived in Korea for 4 years, 3 in Seoul and 1 in Taegu.
I have never seen a fight, but I imagine they could happen in the bar areas.
However, Korea is kind of dirty. Folks spit on the sidewalk and blow their nose on the sidewalks. It is disgusting. Also, in Seoul, just the sheer volume of buses and cars keep everything covered with a fine black soot. Taegu was much cleaner.
Currently, I live in Japan. You could eat off the sidewalks here.

The people aren't untidy, but there sure is a lot of litter everywhere. Seems there is more pride in personal appearance, than the appearance of nature, and streets etc.
As for the fighting... Tae Kwon Do is the national sport... there really arent so many fights aside from the organised sport fighting. I saw more fights in NZ than I have here.
But when Koreans do get in fights, they can be pretty nasty.

Okay the person who wrote above me is f ucking insane. I'm Korean and I wouldn't say its a place for fights and untidyness, that happens everywhere. Here in Los Angeles, Ireland, everywhere! Not just Korea, but yeah that person above me is insane to go all wild on you.
