Do Filipinos Really Eat Dogs?

Question

People sometimes are starting to piss me off when I made mention I'm from the Philippines and they blurt out right away "do you eat dog?" It's annoying and in my part, it's humiliating because the question is much more of a confirmation with the disgusted look on the face of these people...

I don't know how to react with this because I know its true, some Filipinos do. How do I tell them that it's true without grossing them out? Is this a cultural thing or what?

I am proud of the culture where I am from and I believe people are not being racist...Maybe they are just being grossed out. It's like when you think about "people who eat rats" and those "who believe cows are sacred..."

I hate that, too. But do what I do. Mention it's as true as all mexicans are lazy, all blacks are criminals, all whites want to be some other color, all chinese can't drive, etc., etc. They'll get the idea when you make them look like racist idiots.

The Philippines is a 3rd world country, that being said, there is a lot of poverty within the nation. A lot of people have very limited access to food or water. In desperate times these people do turn to dog meat because dogs roam every where in filipino villages. They are abundant and sometimes that's the only thing they have to survive. But this is an old way that is deemed unacceptable in today's standards. Just like everything else tho, some people still hold on to things.

Sadly, some Filipinos do. When I was back home, I have also tried it once or twice. You know it is not something that some people will look kindly upon because most of us keep dogs as pets. But, not because the Filipinos eat them, it makes them less of human beings already. Its just cultural differences. We are not the only ones who eat dogs, some other races do, too. Do not feel grossed out about this. Just understand that we are all different, one way or another. :)

Yes, there are parts of the Philippines where dogs are eaten. It is a cultural thing. Some, I would say, a minority, find it acceptable. I suppose the best explanation is that the attachment to pets (dogs, in particular) is not as strong. Just emphasize that this attitude varies from region to region, and that it does not actually hold true for an overwhelming majority of Filipinos.

Just explain that not everyone from the Philippines will eat dog-meat, and certainly, dog-meat is by no means a nightly dinner fare. It is not on the menu of restaurants (except, probably for the odd out of the way eatery in village, and it might be on the menu for the "shock factor" rather than for general culinary enjoyment). From what I know, it usually is eaten when there are informal drinking sprees in barrios or villages.

Im a Filipino, yes there some filipino's eat dogs, & i used to eat too before but not anymore now, it taste's good but i suddenly found out that the meat of the dog is full of bacteria. We call it "asocena" from the filipino word "aso" means dog.

I don’t eat dogs; and no, not all Filipinos have dog meat for lunch or dinner. Plus, only the barbaric ones in some areas in the Philippines have dogs for pulutan (food during beer-drinking sessions). Most Filipinos are westernized catholics so they dont eat pets.

In Korea however, they even have doggie bags for dogs. (Excuse me for the pun)

Chinese and Thais eat cats.

We cannot put Asians in one cluster alltogether. Each group acts differently.

People will eat all kinds of things, and what they learn to eat with their mother’s milk will be the delights they feed on as adults.

Whites, at least the Southern variety, don’t eat dogs and cats because they belong to the ‘pet’ cultural category, not the ‘food’ category. But hog stomachs, testicles and brains are considered good food.

Thousands of kittens, puppies and dogs and cats are ‘put to sleep’ every month in ‘humane shelters’ because they cannot be adopted by someone. Most are abandoned animals.

A lot of meat going to waste, same for horses. Sell it on the market, feed the homeless, fatten them up for Soylent Green.

Eating dogs is not a sin, you cannot find any verse in the Bible about that..But eating pig/pork and beef is definitely a sin for most religions..

WE love to eat beef and pork, but just the same, for some group of people , we also looks funny and gross..and sinners..

If you let them upset you..then, you are just making them think that they are of higher human specie to Filipinos..

How about telling them that hotdogs are made of dogs?

Just tell them
I dont eat dog. I never did that and I never want to. Some people in Philipine eat dog, but not all people!
Some American eat aligator or croc, I don't remember wich, and some eat snake. Dont they eat prawn? Why do they think a crab is the delicasy, but the dog is only pet? They should remember that all life is equall, just as theyre life is equal to your life, theyre dogs life is equal to the life of a sheep.

Also you must make it cleer that when protein is in short supply its human nature to eat any thats available. People have short memory, but they need to relaize that when America was being colonized people had to eat food that they wouldnt normally eat. Its the choise between life and death.

In Philipine, some people still eat by choise the thing they were force to eat before. Habit. Thats all.

Why you seem so worried about that ?
That is just only a custom of a nation which is still kept up to now by somebody.
As I know, in some other countries people eat dogs even cats and reptiles such as Korea, China, Vietnam, Cambodia... That is no problem.
Korean showed their anger with goverment when eating dogs is not allowed in a period time of WC 2002. They always proud of that and it is considered as a traditional act.

They probrably do, along with other countries that also eat domsetic animals like in China,very recently I saw a restraurant that serves cats. In Japan they have dog meat and horse meat. In Philippines I've come across to words and when I looked them up they meant dog-meat. I think it was aw aw or ausenso. Who cares just be proud of your people its gonna be weird to someone about what you eat. The "civilized" French eat frogs and snails, why can't you eat what you want. Americans eat cicadas/16 yrs?!

Generally though, if your being asked this by retards just give em an equally retort something equally dumb like:
