I once heard Madeleine Albright make comments to this affect:

"I once met a Palestinian diplomat and he told me, 'You will never understand us, for you too (meaning Americans) are a settler people.'

I thought about it for a minute and then replied, 'You know, I think you're right'."

These comments struck me at the time, and have given me some perspective on tacit American support for the settlements.

What are your thoughts on this quote and the mindset that it suggests?

JERUSALEM (AFP) — Another UN agency joined the chorus of alarm on Friday about the devastating consequences of Israeli restrictions on the Hamas-run Gaza Strip, in the run-up to a Palestinian donors' conference.

The Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs warned that the restrictions Israel tightened after Hamas seized armed control of the territory in June could irrevocably damage the Gaza economy.

It was the third international report released this week about the mounting difficulties endured by the 1.5 million Palestinians in Gaza, following findings from the World Bank and the World Health Organisation.

I am not an Arab or a Jew myself. I just can't understand how or why, a simple peace-loving citizen of Israel, still lives on this land.
I mean, being Jewish means to me, a man (person) of the World.
Jew immigrants did wonders all around the world, absorbing the finest elements of their new country and establishing live and thriving communities there.
Tell me please, how a sane family Israeli person can live and evolve in such a terrible war-zone country for so many decades now?
Is money, the answer?

Did God told the Israelis to evacuate all the peoples of Palestine by force and take your “promised land” by force?
Do you think God is not having enough land in his huge world to give the Israelis a land already inhabited by its peoples since thousands of years?
Do you think God is happy to see his chosen people’s kill 4901 Palestinian civilians since September 2000?
This is what I read in Torah,
“In Numbers chap. 34 Preparations being made to enter Canaan and possessing the land. Reuben and Gad did not want to cross the Jordan”
So, God told Moses you are entering Canaan land, God didn’t tell him you are entering the Promised Land or your land, or the Jewish land, it means God told him you are entering a land it is not “yours” it is for the cannanies…

My one issue...... hmmmmmm..... I am furious when I read about drunk drivers; so selfish and wicked.

I know English is widely spoken in Israel, but I would like to try to speak any Arabic/Hebrew while I'm in Israel, I found a few website with some words, but if there was 10 words I should know, what would they be?

PS I leave in two days; I'll be there for 10 days while my wife is working

PSS I’ve really enjoyed viewing this section the last week, some very interesting topics, thanks for any help.

I mean, there is Iraqi Jews, Iranian Jews, Yemeni, Moroccan, Tunisian, Spanish, British, American, Russian, Ethiopian, but there are no one from “the land of Palestine”.
If you will search among all the Israelis you will not find any family was in Palestine before 1839… all of them immigrated to Palestine after 1839…. And it s not a secret they all admit it.
Why before this date there was not a single Jew it is their “promised land”?
Just wandering…
example for those who are not Israelis,
Ehud Olmert, the current Israeli prime minister immigrated from Ukraine
Ariel Sharon immigrated from Russia.
Yitzhak Rabin, Ukrainian immigrant.
Theodor Herzl is Austrian,
Golda Meir, Russian immigrant.
Ben Gurion, from Poland
Also here in yahoo answers,
Moneymaker, south African,
Paperback, British,
Ultra, American.....
so who was in the promised land.... is it only Arabs “Muslims and Christians”

That is what Theodor Herzl wrote in his book "The Jewish State" which it was published in 1896

Why he didn’t specify the land of Palestine if it is really the “Promised Land” for the Jews?

I understand that Israel especially Jerusalem has a great important to the Jews and it is a holy land for them but for the Jews who say G-d gave Israel to the Jews and G-d gave Jerusalem to the Jews, do you think G-d would give a land to those who don't whorship him and those who don't even believe in him?

Do those atheist Jews who belong to Europe or North America have the right of return to Israel?

Thanks and peace

- this is just intended as a fun post, I'm not developing megalomania or anything! But just think: if you look at all that Islam and Judaism have contributed to the world, and then you add in the fact that Jews and Muslims are both very passionate, very dedicated, very loyal people - if we all stopped fighting and joined forces, would we rule the planet? Lol lol lol

I think our joint task force would be something like this:

Communications officers - me and B: we wouldn't need phones, we could both just shout. They'd probably hear us from Tel Aviv to Tehran!

Chief of staff for the Army - UltraNational. Would have to be! Deputy chief of staff: Hopeless

PR - Londoner In Israel, 'h', Muslim by Choice, MikeInRi - all diplomatic and try hard to be fair.

Overall leader - Michael J!

Sorry if I've left anyone out :)

I am a vegetarian and animal lover. I will be traveling to Israel next year and want to prepare myself mentally for any animal suffering I might witness. I recently returned from Greece and was depressed most of the trip. There was a huge amount of stray dogs and cats roaming the streets looking for food. This was the case in all the cities we visited.

I just saw this mentioned on another question. She said that some ultra-Orthodox in Israel speak only Yiddish and consider it to be blasphemy to speak Hebrew. Does this have something to do with not accepting the State of Israel as legitimate? Or is there another reason?

The Priest explained that he had just gone to the carwash because in his faith, it was customary to welcome a new member with the rite of baptism. The following day, the Priest observed the Rabbi cutting the end off the car's exhaust pipe.

Hannah comes home from her afternoon out with her boyfriend Max, looking very unhappy. 'What's the matter?' asks her mother.
'Max has asked me to marry him,' she replies.
'Mazeltov! But why are you looking so sad?' her mother asks, confused.
'Because he also told me he's an atheist. Oh mum, he doesn't even believe in hell!'
Her mother pats her on the shoulder. 'That's all right, Hannah. it isn't a problem. You can marry him, and between the two of us, we'll show him how wrong he is.'
