I think the northern part of Israel is absolutely beautiful, and I find the people there to be laid back and positive. It is something I appreciate very much, since I grew up in Jaffa and Tel-Aviv, where everyone is DEFINITELY not layed-back...lol....

The north is definitely my favorite part of Israel.
The scenery there is incredible, and the people I have met that live there are by an large really down to earth.
It also tends to remind me a bit of where I grew up.
If I were to ever make Aliyah it would have to be to the north.

Galilee? Very much like the Golan Heights, lush and green and elevated with high rolling hills and somewhat moutainous. It is very fertile and geologically upper Galilee is part of the Golan Heights plateau. It has however been heavily overbuilt with what are called jewish "settlements" - the implication of the term is agricultural kibbutzim, etc. - which actually consists of runaway urban sprawl in the sense of a plethora of high-rise apartment complexes and strip malls. I'm told if you saw it before 1967 you wouldn't recognize it today. The indigenous population has for thousands of years consisted for the most part of Palestinians of Syrian ancestry but they have been largely routed into Jordan and those who remain are being segregated behind a complex system of concrete walls. The jews all carry machine guns - often even children - and it is very easy to get yourself severely beaten or even shot if you have a dark complexion and fail to heed and heed immediately the command of any jew, meaning any jew at all - not just soldiers. The entire jewish population is armed and presumes police authority over all dark-complected people. They bark orders at the presumed untermenschen incessantly - exactly like movie portrayals of S.S. officers ordering jews about in the pre-war Third Reich. It's all very disturbing, particularly if like me you have a naturally dark complexion and are easily mistaken for a Palestinian. I feel that at least the northern region of Palestine should be under Syrian control - both upper and lower Galilee. Economically it is being developed in diverse ways but currently is a kind of vacation-land for rich jews.
