I know English is widely spoken in Israel, but I would like to try to speak any Arabic/Hebrew while I'm in Israel, I found a few website with some words, but if there was 10 words I should know, what would they be?

PS I leave in two days; I'll be there for 10 days while my wife is working

PSS I’ve really enjoyed viewing this section the last week, some very interesting topics, thanks for any help.

Sorry, I don't know much Hebrew, but the greeting for the two languages are quite similar and have the same meaning-peace be upon you.

Hebrew: shalom aleichom
Arabic: salam alaikum

All these are Arabic:

thank you: shokrun
your welcome: afwan
who: meen
what: eish
why: ley
how: keef
where: fin
when: emta
I don't know: mush araf (or ma araf)
yes: nam
no: la
help: sa' idne
please: min fadlak

I suggest you go to www.rosettastone.com and download the Hebrew and Arabic free samples of their courses. They will give you about 20 lessons to fully interact with. They are very good and will give you a good start with conversation. They are meant to teach you as you learn naturally, through visual stimulation and oral prompts. (No, I don't work for the company!)

Trust ABC to have to include a spiteful insult! He even gets them in here, in response to this lovely post!

Israelis mostly speak great English. I would suggest getting hold of a Hebrew/Arabic phrase book, you'll have to get one that is phoenetic; that should help you with lots of useful words and phrases.

I hope you have a fab time in Israel, shalom!
