About 20% of Israels population is Muslim/Arab.

And Israel is a democracy where there is equal rights for all people.

So by logic Israel must have a Muslim leader about 1/5 of the time.

Are you glad that he is now leader of the Likud party? Would you welcome him as Prime Minister?

As someone living in Europe, whenever I've seen him speaking, he appears articulate, dynamic, and charismatic. Also a tough negotiator. Is this correct?

Ok, so I was just in Israel for a little over a month! I came on the Taglit-Birthright trip and then stayed there longer with my brother! I LOVED Israel and cannot wait to come back!
I want to spend my whole summer there next year and possibly make aliyah there in a few years.
Another idea I had was to go to school there next year and see if I like it. But that costs a lot of money!
Does anyone know how I can find out about the school programs to study there?
And how can I make aliyah there myself, considering I am only 18 years old!
Please help!!!
Toda!

I think Israel has a beautiful culture. I want to move there even though I am not Jewish/Muslim/Christian. I am learning Arabic because it is the only middle eastern language taught at my university. I want to convert to Judaism someday.

Should I wait to make aliyah until I have converted?

I have noticed a lot of this lately and it is really starting to bother me.

Even if the person asking the question demonstrates a complete lack of Derech Eretz It is not necessary to respond in kind.

And if you find it too difficult to respond without being rude and demeaning, just pass the question up.

Please, let us not lower ourselves to those wishing to those who wish to stir up hate.

Im an American who stands with Israel. Im biased, I wont lie, but Im gonna listen to any futile attempts to sway my opinion. Im also good at history and well versed in both testaments. Lets review the facts...
1) This all comes to religion- admit it even if you dont agree. Judaism was founded 4,000 years ago and Jews have been in Israel since the birth of their religion. Islam- 1,400 years ago and until that time had lived almost exclusively in the Arabian peninsula ( except for some nomadic bedouin tribes).
2) Jews had Jerusalem before any religion today, even Christianity and I support that.
3) Jews did not steal land. There always were Jews in Israel and Jews were consistently the majority in Jerusalem.
4) There are many many Christian countries, There are many many Muslim countries. Only one Jewish country- its theirs biblically and historically and who are we to deny them this right?
To me, al nakbah seems to be 622 CE. Peace out Israel, we hope to see you in Tehran, ooorah!

The following college and university presidents and chancellors have endorsed a statement by Columbia University President Lee Bollinger denouncing the United Kingdom’s University and College Union decision to promote a boycott of Israeli educational institutions. http://www.ajc.org/atf/cf/%7B42D75369-D582-4380-8395-D25925B85EAF%7D/NYTIMES_COLLEGEPRESIDENTS080707.PDF
Is your college president on this list. I was very glad to my school of study (the University of Rhode Island - Go Rhody) was on the list. Is your and if not what are you going to do about this. I hope you will contact your school and ask why they haven't shown the moral leadership to do the right thing.

This is the second part, if you will, to the question posted by Msafwat:

When Muslims the world over riot and march and burn flags and threaten terrorism - because of a few cartoons in a Danish paper - do you think they are being oversensitive? Are they over-using the term 'anti Islam'?

When Muslims the world over burn the British flag, and vow to kill innocent Britains - all because author Salman Rushdie gets knighted - do you think they are 'crying wolf' and over-reacting?

MSAFWAT suggests that Jews are too quick to alledge 'anti semitism' or 'anti zionism' or 'anti Jewish' feeling.

But is this absurd - given the aforementioned response of the Muslim community to cartoons and knighthoods...?

I have been even accused of being Anti-Semite for dividing 20 Billion over 4.9 Million and getting 4081.63 as a result. I'm serious... you can see it here:

http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=ArDLsxf4FW6FImohi8t1HZfty6IX?qid=20070804125608AAU6aaz

I get the feeling that they just throw the accusation without even thinking about its meaning, or do they? Is it being confused with other terms like Anti-Judaism (religion), Anti-Israelis (Nation) or Anti-zionist (Political movement) while Semite is an ethnic race!

Could this backfire? Do you think the term is loosing its significance like the story of that guy who used to cry "Wolf"?

Is it just emotional blackmail, or do Zionists take these accusations seriously? Or is it some kind of collective Paranoia?

There are plenty of jobs that need to be done outside of the West Bank so I do not think you can say that is a factor.

And from what I have been told by people who have served that the IDF acts as the “melting pot” of Israeli society. In that it makes people from all backgrounds equal and the training forms strong bonds.

Would not Israeli Arabs benefit from this? It would certainly help alleviate claims that Israeli Arabs are second class citizens, after all no one considers Israeli Druze, who do serve, second class citizens.

It would also demonstrate to Israeli Jews that their Arab citizens are not a “fifth column” but part of their society.

It seems like it would be good for all sides, so why is it not happening?

This is a Question especially for Michael and all of you who post here on the Israel section. If your child was injured in your neighborhood and many family members were killed during a missle strike who should pay for her lifetime medical bills? For five-year-old Marya Aman and her father Hamdi, the respiratory ward of Alyn hospital in Jerusalem has become a prison and her terrible injuries a life sentence. She cannot leave the Israeli hospital where her father tends her round the clock — feeding her, bathing her and changing her catheters. Her father cannot leave without risking automatic deportation to Gaza and separation from his child. He has a permit to be with his daughter w/ no other rights in Israel so he will not go for a stroll outside the hospital, let alone pop out for a coffee, for fear of being arrested. He has no money. Without the help of kind-hearted Israelis, he would have gone hungry. Now the Israeli Govt. is trying to get out of paying lifetime medical support.

A friend is going to a wedding in Israel. In her real life, she'd like to meet someone Jewish and get married. If she met an Israeli man, do you think he'd be willing to relocate for her? (Not that general circumstances ever apply to specific people, I'm just speaking hypothetically.) Is there a way for her to meet Israeli men who might want to move to the U.S.? Do they make good husbands? I know that there are plenty of foreign women who would marry to move to the U.S., but is it true of men, and would it be true of an Israeli? Would moving to the U.S. be seen as desirable?
