i have been in australia for two months now on a business trip and i am leaving brisbane in march 2008, to go back home,

an australian friend invited me to spend christmas with his family, and i never celebrated christmas because my parents never believed in god, and i never cared to celebrate it, i used the free time from work to travel,

my questions, what are the christmas customs in australia, what should i do, and how to behave, should i get him a gift, a gift for his wife, a gift for his mother, what type of gift should i get them,

i want to be polite to him, because although i don't want to come he kept insisting,

Are you brave enough to come over despite the fact that we experienced more than 10 bombings for the past 6 years?

Some people think we lived on a scariest place in Mindanao...

We are traveling to Seattle during Christmas with my two boys who are 10 and 7. This will be their first time in a cold climate as we are south Floridians, so I am excited to show them a new terrain and let them experience the cold climate. I understand there is not much snow there and I will have to travel a bit to let them have a true white world experience. Any suggestions as to which way to head to see true snow and how long the drive is? Also, need some ideas for siteseeing in Seattle. Any fun activities for kids? How about the monorail and the space needle? Just looking for some ways to spend our week, any input would be greatly appreciated! The tourism sites are helpful, but I figured the locals would know the best! P.S. Is it true the first Starbucks is in Seattle?

Pretend I'm your typical dumb American (okay, I really am your typical dumb American) and I don't know anything about how the holiday is celebrated in the land we Americans know as Greece.

Yes, they really DO exist!:) I've heard that in some places in Sweden, hotels are constructed out of ice in the winter and are allowed to melt in the summer, only to be reconstructed in the winter. If anyone here has ever stayed in one, I would like to know what it's like.

I was wondering if anyone can give their opinions/experiences of connecticut. I will be travelling North America in the summer but have limited time. I don't want to waste some of my time visiting a place that could be skipped. What is there in connecticut and is it worth a visit? Thanks

I'm going on a driving holiday for a while in australia, and it looks like it may not be much more expensive to buy the unit than rent it. Do you imagine I could buy one and then use it in the UK?

Whenever Los Angeles has some disaster, the rest of the country immeditely helps us. no matter what the cost. In the '94 Northridge Quake, our freeways went down. LA has no public transportation. The Federal Goverment poured in hundreds of millions. All freeways were up in a month, and in 6 months, you couldn't tell there had ever been an earthquake. We just had these "End of the World Wildfires" (Los Angeles is actually a valley surrounded by high mountains. Planes and firefighters from all over the country came and solved the problem. Why does Los Angeles get such fantastic service from the rest of the country, yet New Orleans seems to have been forgotten?

Just in case you do not know

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hatay_Province
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hatay_Province#Turkish-Syrian_dispute_over_the_Hatay_Province

It is a place that has been in dispute between Syria and Turkey for the last 80 years. Yet never did Syria declare war against Turkey over it, nor did they break off diplomatic relations.

Some have even stated that Syria is now giving up its claims to Hatay.

I find the comparisons between Hatay and the Golan interesting, in particular how Syria has reacted to both in recent years.

Could it possibly be because Turkey is a Muslim state while Israel is a Jewish state? Maybe I am simply being pessimistic

snaked enjoy sunbathing as well as people do; especially they love sunny areas near pools, so they come to the hotels and sunbathe near the pools, turning this way and that, and having a dip when it's too hot; and the management goes crazy about it, because they didn't check into the hotel and didn't pay?
