Whenever Los Angeles has some disaster, the rest of the country immeditely helps us. no matter what the cost. In the '94 Northridge Quake, our freeways went down. LA has no public transportation. The Federal Goverment poured in hundreds of millions. All freeways were up in a month, and in 6 months, you couldn't tell there had ever been an earthquake. We just had these "End of the World Wildfires" (Los Angeles is actually a valley surrounded by high mountains. Planes and firefighters from all over the country came and solved the problem. Why does Los Angeles get such fantastic service from the rest of the country, yet New Orleans seems to have been forgotten?

Good question. This is what the residents of New Orleans wanted to know.Sure the government helped in N.O. but some of the other countries did as much if not more(the Mexican Army had a convoy of trucks with releif suppies, the Dutch Government sent 2 Search and Rescue craft from Aruba, the Canadian Government sent a medical team, not to metion the various countries with token monetary help).
But it seems that the "money" pocket of the county is Southern California so the powers that be does infact help them first.

California has a lot more money and resources than Louisiana, which is very poor. Local leaders are better prepared and equipped here for natural disasters than they are in Louisiana. But also realize that CA natural disasters have never been on the scale of Hurricane Katrina. Never were so many people stranded and w/o food or shelter in any of CA's natural disasters. Katrina killed over 1,300 people while Northridge killed around 60 and the recent fires less than 15. The fires were not nearly as bad; I live in San Diego and people were trying to compare these fires to Katrina which is like comparing apples to oranges. The nation has never faced the type of situation that Katrina produced in modern history and both the federal, state, and local govt were to inept to handle it.

The best way to help is to donate to a nonprofit agency of your choice that will use the money for building supplies to help those who need it in the damaged areas or donate your time for a week or a even a weekend. At the end of the following video is a list of organizations that are here for the long haul. Thank you all for your donations and prayers. http://www.youtube.com/FinishtheJobFund
