If I buy a GPS unit in australia (for a holiday) will it work in the UK if I load new maps?

I'm going on a driving holiday for a while in australia, and it looks like it may not be much more expensive to buy the unit than rent it. Do you imagine I could buy one and then use it in the UK?

Yes. If you buy in Australia it will have Australian maps preloaded, but UK, European and North American maps can be downloaded for a price.
