I'm planning on studying abroad sometime in the next year or two and I'm looking at either mexico or spain, but I've considered Costa Rica as well, Only problem is is I've heard that there are snakes everywhere in Costa Rica and I'm scared to death of snakes. Is this true, or are there parts that would be safe for me?

Not cheap, but not too high-scale - a place where you can meet other backpackers and fellow travelers. A good central location would be nice, too.

We are having a family holiday in Egypt in the New year. My 25 year old daughter is stunningly beautiful, if I say so myself. I also have younger children. What is the best way of avoiding unwanted attention from hotel staff, shop keepers etc. while we are trying to enjoy ourselves. Are there any useful Egyptian phrases we could use.
