Unfortunately not really as the date will determine the price... for example it is more expensive to travel at the weekends than mid week and also flights are affected by national and school holiday dates and also by the tourist season in the area you are travelling to. If you are looking for as cheap as possible then the best thing to do is pick a date that is some months in the future and also one within the next few weeks and use a travel search engine such as last minute or expedia although the price wont be accurate it will give you some idea of what you are looking at. Because you will have two prices you can see the differences which will help you have a better idea Also some of the airlines will let you search a couple of weeks before and after the date you put in. Basically it is a case of playing around to get a ball park figure.

I would think it very unlikely as the date of travel and sometimes even the time of day that you travel affects the price. Prices also change many times during the day as availability changes. Just put in when you think you are likely to go to get a rough idea but without specifics it will be a rough idea.

Here's the answer: Click this http://www.zuji.com -- Zuji is Travelocity's affiliate covering several Asian Pacific countries. It will show you the range of published airfares on a particular route for up to 1 year. Where it lists countries, click "other." Select "Flights" and then click "Flexible Date." Enter the range of months you want it to check in the drop-down menus (from Dec to Nov, for example, would check the upcoming 11 months). Just to give you an idea, the cheapest it turns up is $1369 roundtrip, plus taxes, on Qantas, for departures in April and May. Keep in mind that this only shows current published fares, and that sale fares might be better than this. Also, compare prices with airfare consolidators such as Airtreks.com and Flights.com -- you might do much better than published airline fares, or even sale fares, with a good consolidator.

I tend to use Expedia to get an idea of which airline is the cheapest and then book directly with that airline through its own website, which usually gives you a better price than the Expedia quote.

Not really as flight prices are all worked out from the date you are flying, as there are different seasons - low, mid, peak, etc, so you need to put in a date so the price can be worked out....
It can also be more expensive to fly on a weekend, so everything depends on when you want to fly

Why not just try a similar date to the one you are likely to be going on ? And compare it with neighbouring weeks, allowing the differences in prices to influence you decision on when to go ?

Or are you planning on travelling outside the time-space continuum?

i think you will find that most Internet booking sites require a date, if unsure try ringing them for an "estimated price" but prices can vary from days of the week to seasonal holidays
