The first poster is crazy; norfolk is a good 4 hours from Dc. Lol. The cost of living is probably higher there than in Alabama. It really depends on your needs and the area you live in. I recommend living in Norfolk or Virginia Beach if you want to be in a central location.

Remember too that if the cost of living is higher, the jobs in that area will pay more to balance it out...

I lived on the coast of Virginia in the mid nineties and the COL was 20% higher than Arkansas where I moved from. Go to the Virginia Pilot online to check out apartment and housing markets. Lots and lots of people in the Norfolk, Hampton Roads, Virginia Beach area, so there is lots and lots of housing available.

Much higher! Basically you are living in Washington DC area. Rents and house prices are comparable to most major cities. <$1000.00 for average rent.
