taxi meters in mumbai- was i cheated ?

do taxi meters work properly. as per the advice of this forum, i took a taxi from kurla terminus to parel (kalachowki). the fare read 299 and with card (chart) came to 433 rupees. returning from the same spot at Kalachowki to Kurla terminusthe fare read 99 wih card rate at 152. whcih one is right? was i cheated ?. how to prevent it the next visit ?. also as mentioned in answers, there are no taxi queues in Kurla terminus. are there bus facilities from there ? thanks to all those who replied regarding how to get to VT from Kurla.it was really, really useful

Is the Hell's Kitchen-Clinton area really as close as it looks to the various attractions in Mid-Manhattan?
