Depends on what your preferences are. Average price now is rising slightly in Bangkok because many locals are trying to move back closer to work. I would estimate for the kind I think you want you would pay from USD 100,000 to 150,000 and that would get you around 80-100 sqm. Truly luxury around 200 sqm would cost USD 300,000 or more. Prices run from USD 800 / sqm to 2,000 / sqm

What city? You might like Bangkok, Pattaya, Rayong, Phuket, Koh Samui, Krabi or Chiang Mai. Visit any of these cities and see what you think.

Bangkok is very metropolitan. Pattaya is very tourist oriented and on the ocean and only 120 km from Bangkok. Rayong is also on the ocean and about 180 km from Bangkok. Koh Samui, Phuket are a plane ride away and very tourist oriented. Krabi is an on the ocean too about 2-3 hours away from Bangkok, locals like to go there. Chiang Mai is in the north and cooler about an 8 hour drive, it is supposed to become the IT center of Thailand, it is a small city in comparison to Bangkok.

Good luck

You'll never be satisfied until you go there and take a look. If you can afford luxury, a plane will get you there in a couple days.
