Check out virtualtourist.com. The challenges that I have faced in Malaysia always work out somehow. You need to drink enough water, don't go to the late movie because there won't be any taxi's around when you get out, keep a clear mind and try to ask help from official locations like hotel desks and travel information desks. I got into a little trouble in KL when some deceivers helped me find a cheap hotel in China town. You can check out virtualtourist.com for stories like mine.
You may want to keep a thin rain jacket with you too. And set your price ahead of time if you are going on a trishaw - bike taxi.

Malaysia is a wonderful country. People are friendly around Christmas time. Have a Merry Christmas and happy New Year in Malaysia.

My advise is just to enjoy travelling and enjoy Malaysia. Stop thinking about troubles and problems. It doesn't happen 100% of the time with different people.

Just apply your usual carefulness and a lot of common sense.

I agree with Dave? Why focus on the Problems? If you're going to do that before your trip, I'd suggest that you stay home. It's not going to be much of a "leisure trip" if you're worrying all the time.
