I am hoping that everyone understood my question. The $12,000 was not a fee but was stated to be a traveling money requirement by the US embassy. Does this further explanation change anyone's opinion?

Steven,

Please stop worrying so much. Check with the embassy directly, but the idea that they would require $12,000 in travel money is absurd. The averge Ghanaian makes less than $500 a year.

Call them or email them, but I think she is throwing out a line to you. Even the monetary requirements for a green card aren't that stringent.

No, no, and no. There is no requirement. Even if there is, they wouldn't check her upon leaving the country, but only when entering the US. This is a load of crap.

Check with the embassy, that would be much easier. My girlfriend from Nigeria has visited me 3 times, and always had about $100 bucks in her pocket - no more!
