a few days ago, my teacher asked me to go to swimming practice after she saw me swim during class( swim practice is afterschool). Throughout the whole day i was worried of what my teacher would think of me since i haven't swum in a long time ( and she only saw me swim a few widths), i was worried whether or not i would be able to swim lengths. After hours of worrying during school, the time finally came to swim. My teacher asked me to warm up first. Instead of going slow and steady, i went as fast as i could to show my teacher how i could swim. All the while she kept on telling me to slow down. Then, she wanted me to do the IM medley (fly, back, breast, free). I thought i would be good at this but, when i dived, my goggles filled up with water and i began to worry (i can never swim without goggles), my eyes started burning, so when i began my second stroke, i just suddenly stopped to fix my goggles( while i was swimming the first length i tried to forget about it and continue..)

How can I train myself to hold my breath longer? I can currently hold it for about a minute. If you know anything please share. If there are differences between under/above water please relate.

Thanks for the help!

P.S. I dont dive or anything i just want to have this under my belt. (Who wouldnt want to be able to hold their breath for a long time?)

I know the debate that many believes freestyle is the fastest style around - but remember one Olympics event where a female swimmer broke the freestyle record by using a "slower" style - the breaststroke? Anyway, my question is: between freestyle and breaststroke, which is more efficient in toning the body? Please explain your reason. Thanks folks!

My friend was telling (more like scaring) me that swimming everyday is not good because the toxic (chlorine and other unidentified floating objects) in the pool will accumulate in your body. Because these chemicals can easily seeps in your body and gather in lungs, intestines, heart etc etc. And he went on telling stories like kids wee in public pools which really freaks me out.

Just want to know, is there any long term effect swimming two hours everyday? Like this toxic accumulating and stuff, is it true? I'm really worried as swimming is my ONLY favorite sport. Thx for the replies in advance..

I swim and have done other sports, and I work harder than anybody I know. But people don't believe me that swimming is a hard sport to train and compete in. Other swimmers out there must know what I'm talking about. So what can I say to prove my point, that swimmers work extreemly hard?!?!

I swim at a very competative level and have been pretty sore lately... I have this huge swim meet comming up and have been stretching a lot, but I am still sore. How else can I loosen my tight/sore muscles?

I am normally sore around my shoulders/upper arms, thighs, and ancles

I'm planning to take a holiday for about 10 days in mid January, to do some serious diving. I've previously done diving in southern Thailand and would love to explore more diving spots in Asia. Any suggestions for good destinations, especially those for living-aboard diving excursions?
