How can I train myself to hold my breath longer? I can currently hold it for about a minute. If you know anything please share. If there are differences between under/above water please relate.

Thanks for the help!

P.S. I dont dive or anything i just want to have this under my belt. (Who wouldnt want to be able to hold their breath for a long time?)

To practice in the water...you can try breathing however many times you need to for one lap...then subtract one and aim for that many times the next lap...and so on until you get the lowest number of times you need to breathe in one lap...keep practicing at that rate...practice swimming laps underwater. Practice diving underwater as well.

The best technique I have found is that you swim laps in the pool and try and finish different intervals (2, 4, 6, 8) of strokes before you take your breath. Don't sway from the original plan and push yourself.

When I had to do the same thing for swimming, while sitting watching tv i would do this exercise: Breath in for 4 seconds, in for 4, out for 3 etc. When i was comfortable with that, in for 5 our for 3 in for 5 out for 3 etc. after that in for 6 out for 4, in for 6 out for 4 etc. Then in for seven out for 4; then in for 8 out for 5; thhen in for 9 out for 5 etc etc etc.
