I swim and have done other sports, and I work harder than anybody I know. But people don't believe me that swimming is a hard sport to train and compete in. Other swimmers out there must know what I'm talking about. So what can I say to prove my point, that swimmers work extreemly hard?!?!

Don't for get to mention the fact that the density of water (1000 kg/m^3) is much greater than the density of air (1.275 kg/m^3). Only wimps work out in air. Also, try running, wrestling or playing football while holding your breath 80 % of the time.

I train 6 times a week for 2 hours, and I swim at a state level. When I was doing aths with the school, I heard that a Commonweath Games athlete only trains for 2 hours 7 times a week, which is realistically only one more training session than what I am doing. Training also has to fit in with school. If that doesn't convince the cynics, just mention the 4.30 am starts on Saturday mornings!

Bring whoever you are going to prove that it is a very competative sport, show them or tell how much you spend yearly on swimming costs: suits, googles, caps, etc. Also tell them about your training, what you do at practice everyday, how you got to where you are, etc. I also think that you should tell them all about swimming, from the strokes, to the breaths you take, all the way to the Olympics.
Best of all, SHOW THEM WHAT YOU SEE.
You have a backhand knowledge, and experience. GO FOR IT:)
Good luck!

1) we are the only ones man enough to wear speedos
2) we are currently the only "almost-full-nudity" sport on any campus
3) we have sets where we can only breathe 2 times for a 50
4) we swim more in a year of practice than they walk in 10 years.
5) dry land hurts

If this is a friend of yours (like a football player, soccer player, basketball player, baseball player) encourage them to come to either a practice with you or a personal workout and have them try and keep up with you.

If this is not a person of the same age as you (older) than just let them have their opinion and possibly offer them to come to a workout with you if they'd like to try and compete with you on what is a sport or not and what is hard or not hard.

You are right! It is extremely challenging and one of the top cardio sports available (gymnastics, wrestling, cross country skiiing are right up there).

It is simple to prove your point. Just invite them to join you in any of your workouts this week. I'm assuming you are swimming 3,000-5,000 meters per workout. If they actually get in the pool and attempt to 'join' you, your point will make itself. If they don't, they may as well put up or shut up.

I am a swimmer who thinks that we do not get enogh credit. You schould have a practice for anyone who thinks that swimming is easy. In the practice make them do everything that you can do.

Get them to do a practice with you. And 3,000-5,000 yards is nothing. You need to go at least 8,000 in a practice. Now that is truly hard. One of my friends could only do a 125, during warm-up.
