My friend was telling (more like scaring) me that swimming everyday is not good because the toxic (chlorine and other unidentified floating objects) in the pool will accumulate in your body. Because these chemicals can easily seeps in your body and gather in lungs, intestines, heart etc etc. And he went on telling stories like kids wee in public pools which really freaks me out.

Just want to know, is there any long term effect swimming two hours everyday? Like this toxic accumulating and stuff, is it true? I'm really worried as swimming is my ONLY favorite sport. Thx for the replies in advance..

No, it won't have any long term effects. I swam competitively up through college. Chlorine isn't something that accumulates in your fatty tissues (or lungs, or intestines). Its a light element and passes through your system rapidly. Also remember that every time you drink a class of water you are drinking chlorine in very small amounts. If there were some sort of long term health effects because of chlorine it would have shown up long ago just from drinking water.

Yes kids pee in the pool but that is what the chlorine is for. Overall, the health benefits from swimming greatly out weigh any possible side effects from whats in the water. Swimming is the perfect exercises. It works both your lungs and your muscles. You use every part of your body and put almost no stress on your joints like you would running.

i've been swimming for 13 years everyday, and chlorine has never done anything bad to me... the only important thing is that you don't drink too much water of the pool and you have a shower as you get out of the pool!
good luck, swimming is really the best sport ever!

That's a good study. Keep on doing it and tell me what happens after 6-months of swimming in a regular chlorine treated pool for two hours everyday. Inverrably, your body and hair(most noteable) will be affected. Your body will probably show sign of discoloration(pale) and some skin damage. It's almost like putting a splash of bleach directly on your skin; only yours is diluted and over a period of time. Good luck swimming in a public pool. People do all sort of things in pools. Dive right in pal.

NO! I swam for 12 years and so did a lot my freinds, none of us have any harmful after effects. The only long term effect is that you will probably be healthier and more toned than if you didn't do anything at all.

No worry! Shower after the pool and rinse your hair with a baking soda and water solution to prevent the "green".

yes, it is bad,
fortunately there is a new type of pool that uses fresh water and no chlorine. ask your pool builder about this, it is all the rage now.
you can swim with the fishes.
