The tards that said hunting is bad for the heart forget the exercise it gives. I smell a PETA funded BS report.

A friend and I were having a debate on what we thought what kind of firearm weapon it would take to disable or kill a mad grizzly bear who attacked you in the woods if it was truly life threatening and you couldn't run away and escape. I told him I thought a .22 magnum up to a .38 pistol with a minumum of 6 shots could take down an adult grizzly bear, probably a powerful female.

Now I am not a hunter and have no desire to harm any animal in the wilderness, but I was curious about firearms. My friend laughed and said a 22 or .38 would only make the bear madder and wouldn't do much to disable it, unless you might get a lucky shot through the bear's eyes or ear.

Anyone know how much firepower it would take to disable a bear attack?

Hi, I'm in the market for a 6.8 SPC AR-15 and I was looking at a few different makers. I'm especially interested in Rock River Arms, but I've heard some very different opinions on them and the website doesn't give me as much information as I would like. If any of you could help me out by telling me some of the features..ie M4 style feed ramp? on Rock River Rifles I'd appreaciate it. Thanks

Any thoughts on the Remington 1100 for home defense? Especially as compared to other makes/models?

Thanks.

I was thumbing through a sporting goods catalog recently and was slightly amused/horrified to see fake geese, a fake cow, all manner of subterfuge to make hunting animals easier. I thought the whole point of hunting was the challenge. Between canned hunts and all these silly fakes, where's the sport?

For the record, I'm not a hunter, but hunting is legal and protected. I respect that right. And I do appreciate that someone else killed that cow I had in burger form.

I think it is weird that someone would only list hunting as a more stressful activity than a treadmill. Aren't there a lot of activities that strain the heart more than a walk on a flat surface? Yet they seem to single this out, with no real groundbreaking data or stunning statistics. I dunno. What do you guys think?

Can you recommend a good brand name/ model / caliber, etc. I don't want to go over 200 bucks, if possible.

Also, I'm not sure whether to get semi-auto or revolver. I like the look of revolvers better than semi-automatics.

Can any experienced shooters help me out?

I know this sounds like a stupid questions, but seriously. There has to be a reason why the "gangstas" shoot guns this way. We all know they use massive jam-o-matics such as Tec-9s, Cobray MAC-10s, and Hi-Points.

Is it because holding it sideways in a moving car will allow a more reliable feed from such crappy guns? Do they shoot in that manner because of the inaccuracy of those guns? Do they custom gunsmith their weapons (unlike the movies) to put the sights on the side of the slides? Does it give an advantage in point shooting?

It's a question that has baffled me for years, as I've always shot firearms that are reliable with proper technique while both feet are on the ground.

Another thing, in the movie "Behind Enemy Lines" I saw in one of the scenes where the soldiers shoot the civilians in the bombed-out store that one of the soldiers holds his AK-47 sideways, with the stock against his shoulder. Is there any advantage in using this technique?
