Do I need to buy FEED seed or PLANTING seed for my food plots?

Question

I'm gonna try my hand at the food plot tactic this season and intend to plant oats, wheat and clover. Do i need planting oats and wheat or do I need to use the feed oats and wheat to pant? I don't know for sure and have heard both ways... Pleas help quick...

The best seed for planting is Certified Seed. Feed grain(seed) will grow but the 5 of seed groth will be less than the certified seed. I would reccomend going to Your local Agriculture supply for Pre-mixed seed mixes best in Your area. As far as when to plant is based on where You are at. Here in Mississippi winter food plots are not planted until September. Northern States are probably ready to plant now.

if you want to know what type of food plots to plant in that area why not talk to a local wildlife officer he will know what you can plant and when to plant and how big of a area you need.clover, rye ,soybeans,beets are only a few things you can plant.also have a soil test done on the area you plan to put your food plot it will tell you if you need to fertilize or lime

Buy the planting seed, because some feed stock is steamed to kill the germ to keep it from sprouting before you feed it.

planting seed and get it planted now, its almost too late. sept. 15 is general cut off date. if your planting this late, plant brassicas, winter wheat, pumpkins, etc.

You would be best to buy seed.
But you need to get it in the ground NOW because you are running late.
