I live in Floyd County Virginia. There is no waiting period in Virginia because we have the computerized instant background check. Go to any gun store and ask someone working there to let you see a form so you can look at the questions. If you are old enough, have valid ID proving you live in Virginia, and not a criminal, certified crazy, or admit ti using illegal drugs you can buy a gun and bullets and walk out with it. If we are neighbors maybe you will come shoot at my rifle range in my back yard...

you can unless you are a guilty of a felony,or have in anyway been proven to be a violent individual according to the law.
when you go to purchase a firearm you will of course have to fill out some paperwork and you will have a background check run on you by the local police.of course there will be more or less of this depending on what type of firearm you are trying to purchase.(handgun,"assault"rifle, full auto, etc)

I live in Virginia too, hampton Roads area, you're best bet would be to call a local gunshop and ask them what criteria you have to meet to buy a gun, and ask them what type of ID you need to bring with you, I use my license and my ccw, they'll be glad to help you.

Ask the guy at the gun shop tell him you want to buy a gun and he will call the numbers to see if you are legal to own a gun.I think they call the state police to do a back ground check.I don't think it's illegal to try to buy a gun unless you are on parole or somthing like that.

Please just assume you can't and forget the whole thing. If someone came into my shop with a greater interest in whether he could buy a gun than in the gun he supposedly wants, I would refuse to sell to him anyway on principle. That sort of behavior would make me suspect he's up to no good, and I'm under no obligation to arm anyone I don't trust.

You can actually call or go to your local gun store and the can tell you if you can or can not. You can but the gun there register it and get your license all in on shot or due it when the gun shows are in town

Why wouldn't you be able to? Unless your a criminal? You go a gun shop and there is usually a 48 hour waiting period. VA you can not buy if you have felonies or a current retraining order on you, otherwise, you are fine. If you weren't able to buy a gun, you would already know it. Still there are gunshows in which you can buy (they are around the Harrisonburg area).
PS Please don't go out and kill anyone, I hoping you are just aking because you want to hunt, right? : )
