Ah! To be young and believe everything. Yes, the AK has a safety; a lever type arrangement on the right side that when in the up position covers the opening in the receiver where the shells are ejected (keeping crud and dirt out of the action when it is being carried); and the lever blocks the trigger from being pulled at the same time. It is simple and does the job; probably the most idiot proof safety there is.

The saftey on a AK is a lever under the bolt, maybee his was broken or somthing.Or it mite just be that alot of times in movies they do and say alot of things about guns that are not true or cannot be done.

yes it has a safety, and Farleyboy is wrong-
the three positions of the AK-47 safety are as follows:
uppermost- SAFE... the weapon will not fire.
middle position- FULL AUTO...rock and roll.
lower position- SEMI AUTO...one round per trigger pull.
this was deliberate so that an excited or poorly trained fighter
would slap off the safety and not end up emptying his rifle in
full auto mode.

Yes they have a safety, on the right side of the receiver there's a safety bar, push it up for safe, push down to fire.
