Hunting - July 2007

I may be getting this old single shot bolt action .22 caliber rifle from 1885 or 1901, i believe its from 1901... Can anybody find this rifle for me and show me a pic? it was my great great grandpas.

My city once again is offering archers the chance to take deer within city limits. Of course, each archer that applies and gets an in-town tag must pass an accuracy test. I bowhunt any chance I get, but I don't feel comfortable hunting in town. I guess my argument is that any deer I've ever hit with an arrow has run, may not have run far, but it has run a ways before it has died. So, I can just picture a deer running from a chunk of timber onto an elementary school playground to croak, dentist office parking lot, etc. Last year archers killed 360 deer in town, with no episodes like I mentioned above. The DNR is doing this for herd control. What do you think?

I will be shooting deer and hogs from 0-85 yards. Which makes a bigger hole (12 gauge)? Are Sabot slugs worth the money? Which has the most energy? Will one dirty the Barrel more than the other? Will a Snake Bore clean the barrel ?

In the process of buying a Colt .45 revolver. It has a certificate of authenticy being 1 of 400 with case and everything, but before I purchase it I want someone to look at it with me, so I make sure I am not going to blow my hand off and that the price is right.. Unfortunately the man that used to go gun shopping with me.. ditched me.. so I am a bit more on my own. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated as I need to put down payment on it immediately!!

I've only been hunting for two years now. I got my first buck last season, but I sat with my husband all the time. I'm wanting to scout out my own big bucks. Any good tips?! We have several properties to hunt, but I'd like to concentrate on one and find the biggest buck on it.

My friend is giving me a reloading press/bench and will educate me concerning the basics of reloading my own ammunition. I am primarily concerned with .223 and .357 loads. I saw one for 200 bucks at a gun show. It had a few scratches the stock and the bluing wasn't 100%. What would the average price be on one of those? I am looking for a less expensive semi-auto, and would one of those be a good gun to get?
