does anyone know roughly how much money a Smith and Wesson 44 magnum model # 29-2 with a red tip sight, wood stock, made in the USA would be worth?

Depending on the barrel length, finish, and age, your S&W M-29-2 could be worth $750-800 or even more, no matter what the 'book' says. If it is an earlier model, with 'countersunk' chambers and a 'pinned' barrel (a tiny pin in the front of the frame, just behind the barrel) it is of much better quality, and highly desirable as a collectors' model, especially if you're lucky enogh to have the 6 1/2" blue "Dirty Harry" Special, the most sought after M-29 of them all!
I paid $625 for an unfired 'New-In-Box' example of this exellent weapon about five years ago, and have already refused offers of $1000+ for it, but I just love the weapon.
P.S: If you have the original wooden presentation box, add $100 to your value estimate.
Your best deal would be to take your M-29 to a reputable dealer and let HIM tell you what it's worth, as even photos don't do a weapon justice for evaluation purposes.

I own a Gunshop and do Appraisel work. I have one in my shop now, a 4" Model 29 Blue Finish. Red Ramp Front Sight,White Outline Rear sight, Goncalo Alves fancy Target Grips..Like New Condition for $575.00
The "Blue Book of Gun Values" which is considered an industry "Bible" lists your Model 29 at $400-$475 in 90% overall condition. I could give you a better more accurate idea with a picture and a little more description details..Hope this helps

To get the Internet market answer you might also check out Gun Broker -- I just did a search with your model number and the guns with bids tend to be in the $400 - $500 range.
