Hunting - July 2007

I've just purchased a S&W 340PD. In order to feed it, I'm going to have to be as economical as possible, which means I'll be reloading.

However, I've only got experience reloading .45 ACP, which is a much lower pressure round, which means the brass pretty much lasts forever. Not so with the .357, I've been told.

So how many times CAN I reload .357 brass? And how do I know when it's not fit to be used anymore?

I'd also like to know the same about .38 Special brass, if you don't mind.

i have a winchester .22 magnum. my grandparents have a farm. they have horses, alpacas (little llamas) and will soon be getting chickens. i have shot a skunk and one ground hog with it before. my pap has shot 2 ground hogs with it before. we havent seen any coyote but the coyote will eat the alpacas and the chickens. i have also shot at a fox before because they have a baby alpaca and the fox would eat it. do you think the .22 magnum will work for varmit control. i shoot 40 grain hollow points and soft noses out of it and that is what i killed the groundhog and skunk with. i am goning to be getting a remington model 7600 .270 soon here and i would use it for deer and for varmits. would that be a good choice? i also am considering a .25/06 because it is flatter shooting. what are your thoughts? i want lots of facts please! i hunt where there are 6 acres of dense woods and about 17 acres of open fields.

I own a 1942 WW2 M1 Garand, I fire it occasionally. When firing it occasionally wants to eject the clip prematurely before all the rounds are expended. What could be the problem?

I'm only 20 and live in Baton Rouge, LA and was curious where one could purchase a cheap handgun for self defense. Lately there have been some break-ins around my apartment complex and a cheap pistol would make me feel a lot better but I have no idea where one goes to purchase a gun... how long I would have to wait... how much it would cost... any help is appreciated.

I know they need hate something or little ideology would not be able survive because made up of most ignorant people don't even know thing about hunting, zoology. biology or science. I yet to hear about any one them being in nature or forest away from a city. Most are white female who seem like only care about animal because they hurt by humans in general and blight animal similar to what they feel. One look yahoo section comes across how much think there better than us. (they are just as passionate about what they do (as sick as that is) as we are. We should take pride in the fact we have found this lifestyle on our own, and let it make us better people.) why bother? Hunters are way too f*cking dense to ever change.

I would like to learn how to shoot a weapon and don't know where to start. Should I contact the local police department or a shooting range? What would be the best type of gun to start with - a handgun or a rifle? I would like to learn for hunting purposes and for home security. I recently moved toTX, so any rules/laws, and any other help would be appreciated. Thanks.

I do not think that citizens having guns is wrong...in fact, there have been studies that show, in states where concealed firearms are evident, there are lower crime rates and less violent crimes because people protect themselves more. Also, the thought that you do not know who has a gun on them is scaring off criminals, period.

As for all of the guns being sold to the psychos, I think that there does need to be a more thurough, strict background search, as well as a pyschiactric evaluation to ensure that you are normal and can own a firearm.

I have always loved shooting; I love the sport and just find guns, well...cool. If you are trained and know what you are doing, then guns are okay and everyone is safe. Accidents are usually caused by the wielder, not the weapon itself.

What is your standpoint on private-ownership of firearms?

I am looking into buying a new mussle loading rifle. I want to know should I buy one of the new(er) model In-lines or go with something like a Saint Louis Hawkens or a Missori Ranger? Are In-lines just a fad or is that the direction that Mussle loaders are heading?

How do I safely remove surface rust from the front sight of my AR-15? Like a fool, I stored it in it's soft case in a locker in my cellar without silica gel or other protection. I'll never do that again!

I was watching Saving Private Ryan this evening. In this movie as well as several other WW2 movies, I've always noticed that once a soldier with an M1 Garand question shoots all their ammo, it looks like their clip pops out with a distinctive "ping" sound.

What exactly is happening/What pops out? Is it a stripper clip? Is it a special type of clip that ia designed for battle (Do all the M1 clips do this or just certain types?)

I was just curious. I was looking to buy a Garand the next time the CMP issues them (without going to Camp Perry in person).

Thanks.
